Tenant Highlight: K9 Design at Torquay Village

There’s something you should know about Selena Elrod, owner of K9 Design in Torquay Village, one of our shopping centres. She likes dogs.

No, let me rephrase that. She doesn’t just likes dogs; she loves them. And she knows them very well. She began breeding dogs and competing in dog shows at age 15. Her first job was in a veterinary clinic. To say that dogs are her life is an understatement.

Today, Selena is not only a professional dog groomer and grooming instructor, but she is also a Certified Obedience Instructor and a Certified Master Trainer. What does that mean? Selena is qualified to train domestic dogs for obedience, as well as police, help, rescue and detection dogs.

But don’t worry: she’s not just training and obedience. She also has an artistic side that she shows through her dog and cat grooming skills.

Her business, named K9 Design, is a grooming salon for cats and dogs, an obedience school and a dog day care. Why “Design”? “It’s my approach to grooming”, she explains. “I’ll make the dog look however the client likes. We do creative grooming and even dyeing.” This makes for some original-looking dogs!

Selena also loves Gordon Head, where K9 Design is located. The neighbourhood is a dog-friendly community with lots of families and dogs around. “Here, dogs are loved”, she tells me. She explains that the well-educated dog owners of Gordon Head want to take good care of their dogs and stay informed about the best care and grooming.

K9 Design is located in a great space with big windows in Torquay Village, on the corner of Shelbourne and Feltham. The store opens up to the grooming and daycare areas and warmly welcomes dogs and their humans alike. The store is also near a few parks, which are great for walking the dogs in day care. And there’s even a veterinarian across the street! It’s an all-in-one pet care package.

Selena’s business is among the many locally owned stores in our shopping centres, and we’re proud to provide her with the space to express her creativity and to take care of the love of her life: dogs.
